Volunteers from SF State University and residents of Bayview’s Northridge Cooperative Homes (NCH) came together at the NCH CommUNITY Garden for a sun-laden planting day on April 1, 2017. It felt more like summer as the newbie gardeners worked under the guidance of the CommUNITY Garden manager, Habitat for Humanity, and Just One Tree. The day saw four JOT Meyer lemon trees securely planted, watered, and nurtured along one of the site’s sloping orchards at 1 Ardath Court. With food justice and youth education at the core of its mission, the NCH CommUNITY Garden has been blossoming since 2011 to bring a flavorful taste of urban agriculture to the 300 families living in its vicinity.
